The Talent Agenda Earlier on, I had written about Jay Galbraith's STAR model for organization design. There are different ways to organize. A functional structure groups similar tasks into functions like sales, marketing, finance, operations, HR etc. A products-based structure groups teams focused on specific products that the company offers. A customer-based structure groups teams to serve certain segments of customers. A geographic structure organizes teams around markets. Or we could have matrix structures that combine multiple factors and is often the norm in large organizations. When it comes to organization design, there is no single best practice.
